Echo Mines Studio creates one of a kind bespoke art works by finding the beauty in the damage found on reclaimed materials.
This is the book carving called Blue Japan. I have done multiply carvings like this with French dictionaries and found a Japanese dictionary in the same style with all the little illustration. With this book I purposely chose the illustrations that were not Western in their look. When carving started on this book I did forget that Japanese books open the opposite way to Western book and carved half of the book upside down, but because of the block style is was a easy fix. The book is sealed and contains a plexiglass front to keep the dust out.
